About LAUNCH
LAUNCH is a venture capital firm investing in early-stage startups, paired with a media arm built around This Week in Startups, one of the longest-running podcasts in tech. The firm has a track record of early bets that paid off, including Uber and Robinhood, and today it's especially focused on AI, the same space pulling most of my own attention.
LAUNCH was founded by Jason Calacanis, a longtime internet entrepreneur, angel investor, and podcaster. He's hosted This Week in Startups for well over a decade, co-hosts the All-In Podcast, and was an early investor in companies like Uber, Robinhood, Calm, and Trello.
My Role
I research early-stage startups, markets, and emerging technology trends to support the firm's investment decisions. The work draws directly on the valuation, market analysis, and financial modeling skills I built at ASU: sourcing and evaluating opportunities the same way I'd underwrite any investment, just earlier in a company's life and with far less data to work with.
What I'm focused on
I'm especially drawn to companies building with AI, the technology I think will do the most to reshape industries and create new investment opportunity over the next decade. Being in the room identifying those founders early is exactly where I want to be.
Most of the day-to-day (company research, market maps, investment memos) is confidential deal work, so this page will grow as I'm able to share more.
Writing
I occasionally write the "TWiST Ticker" newsletter for This Week in Startups, LAUNCH's media arm: short, pun-heavy rundowns of what's moving in AI and startups that day.
