Private Equity in
College Athletics.
"Private Equity in College Athletics: The Utah–Otro Capital Partnership and the Emerging Market for College Athletics Investment" — a comprehensive, finance-driven case study analyzing one of the first institutional private equity transactions in major college athletics.
The project examines whether PE-level returns are achievable when institutional capital is applied to collegiate athletic departments operating under modern constraints: NIL expansion, revenue sharing from the House v. NCAA settlement, and public governance structures.
I built a full PE-style financial model from scratch — revenue projections, expense assumptions, capital deployment strategy, a detailed cap table, IRR, MOIC, and exit valuation via DCF — projected across a seven-year hold period with sensitivity testing across real-world market variables.
Beyond the model, I identified how capital can be deployed into high-return areas like premium stadium infrastructure and commercial operations, distinguishing between short-term spending and long-term value creation within college athletics.
